
Victoria Park is located in Nuwara Eliya where you can relax and enjoy the natural scenery and fresh mountain air is a charming place. The park was named in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s 60th Jubilee. The park covers an area of 27 acres. This garden was originally used as the research area of Haggala Botanic Gardens. The garden was established in the late 19th century by a German prince who visited Nuwara Eliya by planting an oak tree.
Nanu Oya which flows through the park and a number of lakes within it enhances its beauty. About 90% of tree species are exotic species. Numerous rare species of birds can be found in the park. Kashmir Flycatcher is another attractive bird species found in the park. The park is full of flowers during the month of April. There is also a children’s park in Victoria Park for children to play. Victoria Park is a great tourist attraction in Nuwara Eliya. It is estimated that more than 100,000 local tourists visit Victoria Park every year, and between 4,000 and 5,000 foreign visitors.
