Rumassala is another tourist attraction in the city of Galle. During the colonial era, it was known as the “Buena Vista”(pleasant view). According to an ancient book called the Ramayana, this is part of the Himalayan mountain range in India. It further states that the herbs of Mount Rumassala are similar to those are of the Himalayas. It is also home to many species of animals, including endemic birds, reptiles, etc. Therefore, the Rumassala mountain is biodiversity-rich landscape to wander upon.
In the past, this place has been used as a watering-place to fill their craft with fresh water. The ruins of the jetty can still be seen today. Furthermore, the sea around Rumassala is rich in coral and marine biodiversity. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the sun as well.
