Puwakpitiya waterfalls

puwakpitiya waterfalls colombo

Kumari Ella, Ella Uda Ella, Ranmudu Ella, and Dambora Ella are four beautiful waterfalls located in the Puwakpitiya area in the Colombo District, the smallest district in Sri Lanka. The unique feature is that any tourist can reach this area in less than an hour of Colombo.

KUMARI ELLA

When traveling from Colombo, you will find the Thummodara road which is a short distance from the Puwakpitiya Railway Station. After traveling for 2 km you will reach Kumari Falls, the first waterfall. It is not a proper way to reach the falls, so you will need the help of a local resident.

According to the folklore, Kumari, the daughter of King Seethawaka Rajasinghe, drowned while drowning at this place. It is therefore called Kumari Ella to commemorate her. Its height is 4 meters. But her height does not hinder of her beauty. The waterfall is fed by small streams around the area and attracts a lot of visitors on weekends.

ELLA UDA ELLA

Ella Uda Ella has located about 3 km from Kumari Falls. This is situated in 800 meters after turning left from Ilukowita Junction on the Thunmodara road in Puwakpitiya. Also, It is not a proper way to reach the falls, so you will need the help of a local resident. Because it is located in the wet zone and has rubber and tea plantations on its way, you are more likely to be bothered by aphids.

As soon as you arrive here you will see how it got its name. It is a beautiful waterfall which is about 4 meters in height. It is situated a short away from the main road. Due to the lack of a proper route, it does not attract much tourist attraction. The best example of this is the fact that its water is still clean and the different types of fish live. We invite you to come and experience the beauty of this beautiful waterfall.

RANMUDU ELLA

you can reach Ranmudu Falls when traveling along the Thunmodara road about 3 km from the Ella Uda Ella. It is very popular among people and you can easily reach it. When King Seethawaka Rajasinghe was bathing with his wife, his golden ring fell into this waterfall. Hence it is known as Ranmudu Falls. It is about 15 meters high and is popular among local and foreign tourists. This is more attractive during the rainy season.

DAMBORA ELLA

you should travel about 3 km from Ranmudu Falls and turn left from Thunmodara junction and travel for about 2 km to Labugama road. From there you can reach Dambora Falls after traveling about 600 meters on the road leading to the Ayar estate. It is about 10 meters high and was formerly known as the Tamil Falls. This is because there are many Tamil people living in the area.
