The Great Western mountain is the 7th highest mountain in Sri Lanka. It is located behind Great Western Station. The route to climb Great Western mountain is about five kilometers from the station. After walking about 1.5 kilometers from the station you will be able to reach an Iron bridge. Just before the bridge, you can walk up the concrete stairs. You can contact local guides if you want to travel here. I think it is better for the guidance of a guide rather than traveling alone.
This mountain, which is 2212 meters high, is about 1 km long. The Great western can be reached by two routes. Both routes are quite difficult. There you can cross the Great Western Mountain Range along the footpaths set by the locals who are going to collect firewood. A few hours after starting the journey you will find a small stream, two or three feet wide, that will give you clean cold water. This is the last and second source of water you will encounter while climbing the mountain. The first source of water you will find at the beginning of the journey. In a few hours, you will find a steep slope with many rocks suitable for camping.
You can rest for a while and move on. During the journey, you will see a variety of birds and enjoy their sweet music. You can start the journey to the first viewing point and arrive about five hours later. It is 2054 m above sea level. The journey so far will be a difficult one. From there you will have about 30 minutes to get to the top of the mountain. You have to walk through a forest canopy that is about 3 or 4 feet high. There you will see flowers that enhance the beauty of the forest. Among them, main flowers are the blue flower and white flowers.
Finally, you can complete the most adventurous and unforgettable journey.
