
Gangaramaya Temple is one of the most important temples in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Its founder is famous erudite scholar Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala thero in the late 19th century. The temple architecture revel mix of Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian and Chinese architecture.
The seema malakaya is the main component of ganagarama temple. It located on the waters of the Beira Lake. The seema malakaya on the lake designed by famous Sri Lankan architecture renowned Geoffery Manning Bawa(Geoffery Bawa) in 1976. Its main roof is covered with blue tiles.
The further ganagaramaya temple is complete with a chetiya, bo tree, image house, museum, library, piriven & residential, education & alms hall, relic chamber of the Buddha and arahat seevali. Erudite scholars Rathmalana sri Dharmarama thero, Waskaduwe Sri Subhuti thero, Waligama sri Sumangala thero, welivitiye Dhammaratna thero are famous incumbents in the ganagarama temple.
Today gangaramaya is not only as a place of Buddhist. It is one of the top tourist places in Colombo.
