Well, this time we’ve decided to give you a host of dining options along an entire stretch … the famous Marine Drive in Colombo. You may have whizzed past many of these eateries and restaurants, but we’ve listed them out for you and given you some key highlights on what each places is popular for. So, slowdown next time and take your pick!

Gamage Snack Bar – Situated around the corner of Station Road, it’s what’s referred to as a typical ‘kadé’ that serves Sri Lankan favorites such as rolls, rottis, and vadais complete with a plain or milk tea.

The Crab Company (Don’s Deli) – Choose from four types of preparation, namely Sri Lankan crab curry with murunga leaves, Singapore-style chili crab, Thai pepper crab and steamed crab with dip from this takeaway spot. And while you’re there, check out the other snacks and desserts at the Deli. 

Chutnee – This spot is popular for its South Indian delicacies ranging from dosa, parathas to appams together with spicy, flavorful curries. It also serves different types of rice as well.

Chinatown Restaurant – A pleasant restaurant with equally pleasant food; it mainly focuses on Chinese cuisine but also serves some Thai and Japanese dishes too.

Indian Spice – A mix of Indian flavors with more focus on North Indian cuisine; try out of the tandoori dishes accompanied by plain, butter, or garlic naans.

Marry Brown Restaurant –Malaysia-based fast food chain is most popular for its fried chickenburgers, finger food, desserts and beverages. It has a kids’ play area too!

The Fork Restaurant & Café – Ideal for a quick bite and choose to either sit indoors or along the Marine Drive and soak in the salty breeze. Most popular picks are its array of sandwiches, pizzas, and pastas.

Spice Coast – This place serves an array of North Indian dishes for dine-in and take-out; try the dum biriyani and range of tandoori items as well as the fresh juices and Indian desserts.

Yaal Restaurant – Bringing you some authentic flavors of Jaffna, the hot favorites served here include chicken/fish perattal, string hopper biriyani, mutton or cuttlefish kotthu, crab curry, and the famous soup odiyal kool.

KFC – When all fails, there’s nothing like that greasy, crispy goodness washed down with a chilled cola. And this outlet is sprawling and ideal for a family outing.

Train Spotter Restaurant, Global Towers Hotel – Famous for its evening buffets with a different theme each day; it serves Chinese on Thursdays, South Indian Fridays (which is the most popular), seafood on Saturdays and international on Sundays.

The Yacht Cabin, Global Towers Hotel – A no-fuss, chilled out spot that serves quick snacks and tasty treats ranging from pies to pastries and hot and cold beverages.

Miami and Marine Grand – Yes, these two places host weddings and other receptions, but you don’t have to wait for an invite to be able to get a taste of the best biriyanis in town; they both take orders for rice and string hopper biriyani.

Olive’s Kitchen – The Indian food and the Singapore fried rice are highly recommended. They also have a good range of soups, including a delicious hot and sour soup.

Rio Ice Cream – From outside Jaffna’s famous Nallur Kovil, Rio has made its way to Marine Drive; try one of the specials such as the Rio Special that includes four scoops of ice cream, fruit and nut, vanilla, mango, and milk, with a healthy sprinkling of nuts.

R&R Beach Restaurant – An outdoor dining spot that serves Chinese cuisine. It’s not the finest, but worth checking out if you’re looking for value for money.

Dinemore – Great place for a quick bite or takeaway; the most sought after include its range of submarines and club sandwiches. They also have an array of fresh juices and milkshakes.

 

Dehiwela

The Station – A chilled-out place for a cheap beer and good food; they have a range of deep-fried favorites and devilled snacks as well as fried rice and soups.
