Sunday, June 2, 1857, was named Children's Day by the Rev. Dr. Charles Leonard, pastor of the Redemption College in Chelsea, Massachusetts.Initially it was called Rose Day and later it was called Flower Sunday and later it was called Children's Day.

World Children's Day is celebrated around the world and is celebrated on 1st October in Sri Lanka. Many events have been organized to celebrate Children's Day in Sri Lanka. Government and non-governmental organizations organize various competitions, fun events, and sports for children, and gifts for participation. Newspapers, radio, and television also have the opportunity to focus more on children and devote more programs and articles to them and their problems.
